iPhone support in Ubuntu 10.04 beta1
Everybody is excited now about the product launch of the iPad but I guess it’s time to put it away and take a look at iPhone support in the upcoming release of Ubuntu (10.04, Lucid Lynx). The first few minutes are containing footage from a fresh install. After that I compiled the latest version (1.0.0) of libimobiledevice what makes it all possible whit some other software. I suggest you to watch the video in HD. For Ubuntu head to: www.ubuntu.com If you’re looking for more information or building instructions www.libimobiledevice.org The music freemusicarchive.org PS: My iPhone is not jailbroken since there is no option for that with 3.1.3 firmware.

how do you install libimodiledevice onto unbuntu? [i am a new linux user]
iim having trouble adding songs to my ipod can n e one help it keeps giving me an error code when i try to trag songs in to it threw the music box
@sacredpotato try another USB port, i had the same problem and this fixed it…
can it work with android phones?
what if your ipod is in recovery mode?
@sacredpotato i have a similar problem: my iPod just plain doesnt show up at all. it runs iOS4
@noonerofl Oh what I meant is that I can pull music off and play music directly from the iPhone; I haven’t tried to sync. I sync my iPhone with iTunes on a Windows machine which is sitting right next to my Linux one.
@xVxNICKxVx You are able to sync music with an iphone4? I installed the latest libimobiledevice from source and I cannot. What version are you using?
what did you do to get the manage springboard and device backup to work? with the devicebackup I get “ERROR: Could not start backup process: device refused to start the backup process.”
fuck yea now we can install cydia though the file maneger
might be nice to have a ver of this vid with no music and you actually explaining whats going on lol
Just a note, iPhone 4 running iOS 4.0 also works without a hitch.
1:43 wasn’t planned? I recognize that picture…
Pretty cool.
@sacredpotato I use 3.1.3 on my ipod touch 2g. I think you might have to try opening it in itunes first. also try shutting of auto sync features then try again in linux. Also make sure it is done in Windows and not macintosh. later on. and hope that helps
you can jailbreak any iphone with itunes 9 (except 9.2) from spiritjb.com
when ever i goto upgrade to the new system it will downlaod and install everything but then after that it doesnt work any ideas
how the bloody hell do u install it?!
@ALetification Well at the beginning of the Video, you see how the File Browser pops up and you see some folders, just try to put a Video eg in the Folder Podcasts or so , just try it :;) But you have to convert your video to a mp4 Format for your Iphone
So Just Install in Ubuntu all Codecs(Gstreamer, ffmpeg), then Google “Mobile Media Converter), the first thing is right. Its a Converter, even for Ubuntu. You install it with a Double Klick, just download the ubuntu version
Will this work on 3.1.2 Or only .3???
@masterofabortions wait until you’re on 3.1.3 and try again, it definitely should work
@masterofabortions on a full install, I dont think…or know if wubi will be able to manage the device’s as well, as it runs as a file within windows.
USAiTunesGiftCards . COM Says it all !
do you have to tag podcasts to get them to show up properly if dowloaded from rhythmbox?
Great!!
I use ubuntu 10 and the only thing I can do is uploading music with Rhythmbox.
Is there a way to upload video?
Thanks
